Inground pool water features bring life to static pool designs. Who wants their beautiful landscape and inground pool to look like a still painting when they look around the yard? While the idea of a picturesque outdoor living space is ideal, the notion of that space being completely still and lifeless can be disheartening. With water features, inground pools add energy, motion, sights, and sounds to the design. The features can foster relaxation or generate excitement. Regardless of their overall effect, the water features will add interest to the pool design. Here is a brief list of some inground pool water feature options:

Sheer Descent- Sheer descent water features are nice, subtle water features. They look exactly as they are named, with a sheer sheet of water descending down from a masonry wall or the wall of a raised spa. In general, they are clean, relaxing, accentual water features. They often add interest to practical areas above the swimming pool.

Waterfalls- Waterfalls are also self-explanatory, but expert waterfall design and construction takes many different factors into account. Will the waterfall trickle down the rocks as a small stream or cascade over rocky cliffs like Victoria Falls? In this way, inground pool waterfalls can have a calmness about them or represent nature’s power and excitement. Rushing waterfalls will be loud with splashes. Calm, trickling waterfalls will be more quiet and simple. Waterfalls are the perfect water feature for natural style inground pools.

Deck jets- Deck jet fountains are more formal water features for inground pools. The deck jets are streams of water that shoot directly out of the pool patio, or “deck.” These fountains generally arch into the pool with an elegant style to them. Sometimes you will see the deck jets arch into the pool at each of its four corners. Other times the deck jets will line either side of the pool in a staggered design so the arches create a unique design as they stream into the water. Deck jets bring motion to the inground pool, but they primarily add to the appearance of the design.

Scuppers and Spillways

Scuppers and spillways pour water into the pool from the spout of a bowl, a tipped over pot, or the opening of a spa. While the scuppers and spillway of a spa may sound like a sheer descent, the water feature has a much less uniform look. Instead of a sheet of water, these water features simply pour water into inground pools. Depending upon the shape of the scupper or spillway and the force of the water, the water will have a different look. In this way, the scuppers and spillways have a more natural effect for inground pools.

Water Walls

Water walls represent the more rigid, formal side of waterfalls. The water wall is a wall that features water trickling smoothly down the surface for a nice, relaxing effect. Inground pools with water walls generally feature a formal or modern design. Instead of a waterfall with natural stones and rocks, the water wall offers a more structured water feature with chic, smooth materials.
